How and when did you get into the industry? After being a paralegal for over 20 years and working exclusively in high-conflict and high-asset divorces, I needed a change. Two years ago, I began my DR training and haven’t looked back!
How did BlueLedge courses or instructors help you? Absolutely everything I needed to know to pass my CER exam was covered in the BlueLedge course.
Are you certified? If yes, what are your certifications? What was your motivation in getting certified? The state of Tennessee recognizes DRs as licensed court reporters; therefore, we are required to obtain our certification in electronic reporting.
What would you say to somebody starting out as a digital reporter or legal transcriptionist? I heard someone say in a CEU, “I have become comfortable with being uncomfortable.” This is the best phrase to remember because you can be asked to cover many different types of jobs in many different venues. I’ve done jobs anywhere from depositions for simple car accidents to board meetings with several speakers to jobs involving judges, FBI agents, and the Air Force. You never know what you will walk into, so become comfortable with being uncomfortable.
What was a memorable experience you’ve had as a reporter or transcriptionist? For me it is when an attorney is pleased with my work, presentation, and demeanor and asks me to cover future jobs.
